What is Subgis (Metadata Platform)?
Subgis is a SaaS platform designed to simplify data management for teams and organizations. By streamlining how data(metadata) is understood, tracked, and utilized, Subgis enables businesses to handle complex data use cases with ease.
Whether you're managing datasets, assessing the impact of changes, or ensuring data quality across systems, Subgis empowers you with the one metadata platform for data governance, data discovery and everything else in the process. The platform is in development and is aiming to make data management simpler and accessible for everyone.
What Data can be Integrated?
The platform aims to seamlessly integrate with a wide range of data sources to help you connect, discover, and manage your data efficiently. It supports relational and NoSQL databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB, as well as data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, and Redshift.
You can also integrate with data lakes like Amazon S3 and Azure Data Lake, BI tools like Tableau and Power BI, and ETL pipelines such as Apache Airflow and dbt. Additionally, Subgis handles real-time data from streaming platforms like Kafka and offers APIs for custom integrations, ensuring comprehensive support for your data ecosystem.
What is a Data Use Case?
Subgis bridges the gap between business and technical teams by incorporating data use cases directly into its metadata platform. A use case, in this context, represents how data is ultimately applied to drive businesses — whether it’s powering analytics dashboards, training machine learning models, or informing strategic plans.
By tracking data from its source to its final application, Subgis provides complete visibility into the data’s lifecycle. This transparency helps technical teams ensure data quality, compliance, and lineage while enabling business teams to trust and effectively utilize the data. The result is smarter collaboration, better decision-making, and a more aligned organization.
Will the platform be free?
Yes.
We believe the platform should be accessible to everyone to reach its full potential. To develop more advanced features, we may consider introducing paid tiers in the future.
How to get involved?
We invite future users to help shape the platform. We're seeking feedback on both the platform and the features we're developing. Feel free to leave feedback, sign up for the waitlist, or reach out to us directly. You can submit feedback as many times as you like.
Who is the data platform for?
The data platform is designed for data teams managing data pipelines, databases, ETL processes, and data documentation. It aims to enhance collaboration with teams that rely on data for their use cases. Essentially, it’s for anyone seeking a simpler way to work with data.
Why are you building Subgis (our motivation)?
The team has been working in data engineering for several years, designing and building data solutions. This experience has highlighted the challenges of uniting data, tech, and business teams in understanding what data they have and how they are using it. We discovered that teams struggle to find tools and data platforms that can be effectively utilized by both data and business teams. This is an ambitious goal, we know!
We believe the solution isn’t about replacing existing tools and platforms but rather using them as intended. Maintaining data documentation and use cases in spreadsheets or slide shows is often cumbersome, time-consuming, and prone to errors. What’s why we want to offer a simple and intuitive alternative.
